The new state-of-the-art $3.6 million, 25,000 square-foot facility, will provide: regional orthopedic and sports medicine services; a 24-hour gym offering medical fitness and wellness services; physical therapy, sports, spine and orthopedic rehab services, aquatic therapy, hand therapy, and athletic training services; and sports science research focusing on non-traditional treatments for cancer survivors.

“Our goal for this facility is to be a regional destination center for active people seeking innovative and inclusive sports medicine services. The Sports Medicine & Life Performance Institute brings resources and expertise – academic, clinical and material – all together in an exceptional facility. This pioneering approach and our profound commitment to patients will create value that attracts people from all over the Midwest,” stated Dr. J. Bryan Dixon, Advanced Center for Orthopedics.

Brian Sinotte, Chief Executive Officer of UPHS-Marquette, states, “This one-of-a-kind institute is a key part of our broader effort to transform health care in our region to best meet the needs of our communities and neighbors for generations to come.”

Russ Tripp, CEO for UP Rehab Services, states, “We are excited to bring these services all under one roof so that patients have a single destination for comprehensive sports medicine services. Our team is committed to providing high-quality patient care, giving our patients a FAST Track for therapy care and helping our patients achieve superior outcomes.”

“Peform4Life is honored to be a part of such an innovative and collaborative facility. Perform4Life is bringing a brand-new service to the region with regards to medical fitness and wellness services. We look forward to working with the health professionals in our community as we develop a center of excellence for the Marquette region and beyond,” stated Chris LaFave, Executive Director.

Elizabeth Wuorinen, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Northern Michigan University, states, “We are looking forward to the potential collaborations with all those involved as there are many ways that we can all work together. The Health and Human Performance Research Center is excited to start working on our exercise oncology research investigating how exercise can be beneficial to cancer survivors, from the time of diagnosis, through treatment, and post-treatment. Exercise, specifically non-traditional and in the outdoors, can be extremely beneficial to survivors not only physically, but mentally, emotionally, and impact one’s overall well-being.”

The center will be located at 841 W. Washington Street, in Marquette. Construction will be completed by February 2018. A community open house and sign reveal will occur in Spring 2018.
